MOMENTS FESTIVAL 2023 / MALAGA SPAIN

I was fortunate enough to be invited to participate in the 10th anniversary of the Moments Arts Festival in Malaga Spain in mid October 2023. I had an exhibition of 60 screen prints. Painted a small mural at a popular local bar called “Drunkorama”, and taught a workshop at the Marbella Design Academy. I have had the pleasure of traveling all over the world for this job, and this was one of the greatest trips I have ever had. My sincere thanks to Juan and the gang from Staf Magazine, Dani and the staff at Drunkorama, the special mermaid, and the staff and students at the Marbella Design Academy.

ABE FROMAN SAUSAGE KING 9/16/23

Dear Chicago,
I am coming back to visit one of my favorite cities in the world. I will be exhibiting a selection of screen prints, primarily artist proofs from sold out editions with my old friends at Rotofugi Gallery.

I drew this deep dish, bear Bean, frank flip to celebrate my return to the hot dog capital of the planet. Prints and shirts will be available at the show.

ENDANGERED MURAL IN MIAMI

I just completed one of the largest paintings in the world’s largest mural district here in Wynwood. It took myself and two other painters roughly two weeks, and almost 70 gallons of paint to complete the project. I am very proud of the results.

Acrylic paint on concrete

2023

This piece was inspired by the official state animals from where I live, and where I painted this mural. Both the California Grizzly and The Florida Panther became endangered during man’s expansion in to their native turf. I thought it was a larger than life way to celebrate these majestic beasts and their struggle with humans. The property owners requested a design that created a connection between San Francisco California and Miami Florida.

I could not have done a piece at this scale without the help and experience from two rad expert type dudes. Infinite gratitude and respect to Daniel Antelo and Guillaume Ollivier for helping me to make these massive beasts come to life.

Thanks again To Jesse Feldman and Glenn Gilmore for trusting me to cover their giant Cube building with all of this paint.

Big thanks to Harold Ruiz for taking such amazing photos and drone footage of our process on the wall.

Just goes to show that even at almost 50 years old, you can still teach an old dog (fish) new tricks. Grateful to still be experimenting, expanding and exploring the boundaries of my artwork every day. Thanks again to all of my real friends, fans, followers, collaborators and collectors for all of the support over the last few decades to help get me to where I am today.

THE FISH BUILDING

This year I have been working on redesigning and transforming a building next door to the Francis Ford Coppola building at 900 Kearny here in North Beach. Before I turn 50 I will celebrate living in San Francisco for 30 years, and upon completion of this project the building will be named after me and my art studio will be on the roof. I still love you San Francisco, and I am truly grateful for all the wonderful opportunities you have gifted me over the last three decades.

Huge thanks to Jesse, Glenn and Stephanie at the Brick and Timber Collective for the opportunity

WORK IN PROGRESS

FRANCISCO MIDDLE SCHOOL MURAL

I painted this mural recently for the Francisco Middle School Library. My message was to remind these kids that wisdom and ideas still come from these crazy things called books.

Francisco Middle School has been serving North Beach and Chinatown families for nearly 100 years (since 1925). One fun fact is that Joe DiMaggio attended school here back in the day. Besides the marvelous book & graphic novel collection, the library plays host to all kinds of activities from music and video production to arts, crafts and hands-on projects of all kind.

Thank you to the librarian for making this project happen. My mother worked in libraries when I was a little kid, which made this a real pleasure to work on.
